When trying to recruit students online, how to make sure that you are correctly identifying who your target groups are and meeting them where they are?

The mistake many schools make with their Digital Marketing efforts is to have targets that are too broad and non well defined. Similarly, when picking the channels, they don't hang out where customers are. But one size doesn't fit all.

To get it right, here's what I suggest:

  1. Define your target base

  2. Define where they are hanging out

  3. Be there

School A has an international 24/7 student support.

School B only replies to requests 9-5 (local time).

José is a Mexican student that has a pressing enrolment issue.

In Mexico is 4pm.

He tries to reach out to the 2 schools.

School A answers and solves the problem. José is happy and relieved.

School B doesn't. José is left frustrated and with doubts.

Guess what school José will feel better about?

Moral of the story, be always available to help students.
